Measuring The Nutrient Strength Of Hydroponic Solutions
Improper levels of nutrients in a hydroponic garden solution can cause problems for the plants. An EC TDS meter can be used to monitor the nutrient level. This piece of hydroponic equipment measures the electrical conductivity in the nutrient solution that is the result of the concentration of nutrients such as sodium chloride.
Many people rely on a digital EC meter to get the most accurate readings, especially if they are dealing with delicate plants. As the water in the solution evaporates, the nutrient concentration increases and shows as a higher reading on the EC meters. When the plants are properly absorbing the nutrients, the concentration in the solution will decrease and more nutrients should be added.
In order for the EC meter to be as accurate as possible, the Ph of the water should be at the same level each time the readings are taken. Ph test kits are usually sold wherever hydroponics equipment is available.
