Roots are the parts of the plant that draws in water and nutrients from the ground. The roots also need fresh air to be able to stay healthy and focus on their job. So if your water supply is not adequately oxygenated, it can have a negative effect on your plants. That's where air pumps come in, they pump air into your water tank to make sure that your grow room has as much air in every bit that it can handle. Air pumps also stop the water from becoming stagnant and old, which is great for your roots as old water can cause roots to rot.

Hydroponics Air Pumps

Supplying a nutrient rich solution to plants in a hydroponic garden is important and so is supplying the necessary amount of oxygen in that nutrient solution. There are various types of hydroponic ventilation systems that are used to be sure that the plants are getting the proper amount of oxygen. They range from a standard aquarium air pump for small household hydroponic gardens to the large capacity, commercial size hydroponic air pumps.

The machines in the latter group of hydroponic pumps can have many adjustable air flow manifolds to supply oxygen through tubes or pipes that lead to different sections of a large hydroponic garden. In spite of their ability to supply oxygen to so many plants, they are actually very economical to operate. In fact, smaller versions of these growing pumps are available for household hydroponic gardens that cannot be adequately supplied with the proper amount of oxygen by a simple aquarium pump.
