Plant pots are important to keep your plants in, and it is critical to get pots big enough to hold the root system for your plants. If you are going for a pure hydroponic grow system, you will need a different type of potting system than compared to if you use a soil medium. Growing rooms are usually distinguishable by seeing if the plants use a soil medium, or a hydroponic medium such as coconut husks.

Hydroponics Pots And Trays

Different hydroponic grow systems require the use of different types of grow trays and grow pots. The hydroponic pots can either be constructed with several small holes in the bottom or as completely mesh baskets. The Wilma hydroponic systems use the type of growing pots that are more solid because they use a drip feed to give the nutrient solution to the individual plants.

The solution has to have time to slowly work its way through the growing medium to the roots of the plants. The excess solution trickles into the hydroponic plant trays below and runs back into the reservoir.

The NFT systems require the use of the mesh basket pots because in NFT hydroponics the roots of the plants are out in the open and constantly exposed to a very shallow stream of the nutrient solution that flows along the growing trays. The mesh allows the roots to expand and spread into the stream of nutrients.
